Bactrocin 2% Mupirocin belongs to the group of medicines called Antibacterial agents. It is used to treat bacterial skin infections such as folliculitis (swelling of the skin around the hair roots), impetigo (appears as a small scratch or itchy patch of eczema), and furunculosis (pus-filled bump under the skin caused by infected and inflamed hair follicles).
Bactrocin 2% can also be used to treat skin infections due to small cuts, lacerations, wounds, or scraped skin.
Mupirocin is a naturally occurring antibiotic. This antibacterial agent is produced by fermentation using the organism Pseudomonas fluorescens. It is active against a wide range of bacteria (e.g. Staphylococcus aureus including methicillin-resistant strains and Streptococcus pyogenes) those responsible for the majority of skin infections. It is also active against gram-negative pathogens, such as Escherichia coli and Haemophilus influenza. Mupirocin inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by reversibly and specifically binding to bacterial isoleucyl transfer-RNA synthetase.
Bactrocin ointment has been found to have no medication interactions.
Individuals having a history of hypersensitivity responses to Mupirocin or any of the preparation's components should avoid taking it.
There has been no evidence of harm to the fetus in animal reproduction trials using Bactrocin ointment. Because there is no clinical experience with Mupirocin ointment during pregnancy, it should only be used if the potential benefits outweigh the risks of treatment.
This medication is not known to be excreted in human milk. Because many medicines are secreted in human milk, Bactrocin ointment should be used with caution if a breastfeeding woman is using it.
Keep the temperature below 25° C and away from light and moisture. Do not store in the freezer. Keep out of children's reach.
